Injection Therapy
Injection Therapy
Medically Supervised Vitamin and Nutrient Injections
Practitioner-ordered. Individually reviewed. Administered by licensed clinical staff.
Some people prefer nutrient injections as a convenient part of an existing wellness routine — particularly patients already working with a practitioner on nutrition, or those who find oral supplementation difficult to keep up with consistently.
Intramuscular injections deliver a small volume of solution into muscle tissue rather than through the digestive tract. That is a difference in route of administration. It is not, on its own, a claim about outcome.
At Functional Healthcare of Omaha, injection therapy is a medically supervised wellness service. Every injection requires a completed medical intake, review by a licensed practitioner (MD, DO, PA, or APRN), and a valid order before administration. Some formulations require laboratory testing first. Some patients are told no.

What Is Injection Therapy?
Injection therapy — also called vitamin injections, nutrient injections, or vitamin shots — is the delivery of vitamins, minerals, or amino acids into muscle tissue by injection, rather than taking them by mouth as a pill, capsule, or liquid.
An intramuscular injection places a small volume of solution, typically 1 to 2 mL, into a large muscle such as the upper arm or hip. The injection itself takes seconds, and a typical visit runs about 10 to 15 minutes. Because the solution is not swallowed, it does not pass through the digestive tract before entering circulation. That is a difference in how the nutrient is delivered — it is not, on its own, a better outcome. Higher circulating levels of a nutrient do not necessarily produce improved results, particularly in people whose nutritional status is already adequate.
Formulations commonly offered in this category include vitamin B12 in its methylcobalamin and hydroxocobalamin forms, vitamin D, B-complex with vitamin C, glutathione, amino acid blends, and mineral blends. Our full menu appears below.
How is this different from IV therapy?
An intramuscular injection delivers a small volume into muscle and takes a few minutes. IV therapy delivers a larger volume of fluid into a vein through a catheter over a longer session. They are different routes of administration with different volumes, different session lengths, and different screening requirements.
At Functional Healthcare of Omaha, injection therapy is a medically supervised service rather than a retail one. Every injection requires a completed medical intake, review by a licensed practitioner, and a valid order. Some formulations require laboratory testing first. Administration is performed by licensed clinical staff.
Which formulation is appropriate for you, if any, is determined by:
Health history and current medications
Laboratory results where applicable
Lifestyle and dietary factors
Practitioner clinical judgment
What Injection Therapy Is Not
Injection therapy is nutritional supplementation. It is not a treatment for any disease, condition, or symptom. It is not a diagnostic service. It is not a substitute for medical evaluation, prescribed treatment, or a balanced diet.
We say this plainly because the wellness industry frequently does not. If you are dealing with persistent symptoms of any kind, the correct first step is an evaluation with a physician or practitioner — not an injection. Our practitioners will tell you the same thing during your intake review, and will refer you when that is the appropriate response.
The goal here is not to promise you a result. It is to provide a supplementation option, under medical supervision, to patients for whom a practitioner determines it is appropriate.
Why Patients Choose a Medically Supervised Program
The difference between injection programs is rarely the ingredients. It is the process around them.
Practitioner review is required, not optional. No injection is administered on request. A licensed practitioner reviews your intake and issues an order, or does not.
Laboratory testing where clinically indicated. Certain formulations are not approved without current labs. Vitamin D is one of them.
Pharmaceutical-grade preparations from licensed compounding pharmacies. Single-use vials, sterile preparation standards, and sourcing that complies with applicable compounding regulations.
Administration by licensed clinical staff under practitioner direction, in a clinical setting.
Integration with the rest of your care. Injection therapy sits inside a functional wellness practice, not beside it. Your practitioner considers what else you are taking, what your labs show, and what you are already working on.
Medical Screening and the Practitioner Order
All injection therapies require medical screening and a licensed practitioner order prior to administration.
- You complete a detailed medical intake covering health history, current medications, allergies, and supplements you are already taking.
- A licensed practitioner reviews your information and issues an order when appropriate.
- Certain formulations require laboratory testing or a direct evaluation before approval.
- Administration is performed by licensed clinical staff under practitioner direction.
- Preparation follows sterile standards and applicable compounding regulations.
Your practitioner will talk through what is appropriate for you during that review, and will tell you if injection therapy is not the right fit.
Our Injection Options
All injections require medical intake review and a licensed practitioner order. Some formulations require laboratory testing or a direct evaluation before approval.
The descriptions below identify what each formulation contains. They are not statements about what any formulation will do for you.
Methylcobalamin (B12) Injection
The methylated, active form of vitamin B12.
Hydroxocobalamin (B12) Injection
An alternative form of vitamin B12 with a longer retention profile. Form selection is a clinical decision made by your practitioner.
Vitamin D (Cholecalciferol) Injection
Vitamin D3. Current laboratory testing is required prior to administration. Your practitioner will not order this injection without a recent vitamin D level.
Tri-Immune Blend
A compounded preparation containing vitamin C, glutathione, and zinc. Requires G6PD screening prior to administration.
Glutathione Injection
A compounded preparation of glutathione, a compound produced naturally in the body.
Amino Complex
A compounded preparation containing arginine, ornithine, lysine, citrulline, and carnitine.
B-Complex with Vitamin C
A blend of B vitamins with vitamin C. Requires G6PD screening prior to administration.
Mineral Complex
A compounded preparation containing magnesium, zinc, and selenium.
Regarding compounded preparations: compounded formulations are prepared by a licensed pharmacy and are not FDA-approved drugs. They are not reviewed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for safety, effectiveness, or manufacturing quality. Your practitioner will discuss this with you before any compounded preparation is ordered.
Formulations are selected during your consultation. Not every formulation is appropriate for every person.
Candidacy and the Evaluation Process
Injection therapy may be appropriate for adults who are seeking nutritional supplementation, who prefer an alternative to oral supplements, or who have already discussed supplementation with a practitioner.
It is not appropriate for everyone. Health conditions, medications, allergies, laboratory findings, and pregnancy or breastfeeding status may all rule it out — and a practitioner may determine that supplementation is not indicated at all.
Injection therapy is not a replacement for medical evaluation. If you are experiencing persistent symptoms, please consult your primary care provider.
What Happens During Your Experience
- Medical Intake
A detailed questionnaire reviewed by a licensed practitioner.
- Assessment & Order
Clearance, a request for laboratory testing, or a request for a direct evaluation — whichever the practitioner determines is appropriate.
- Administration
A brief intramuscular injection administered by licensed clinical staff. Most visits take about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Aftercare
Written aftercare guidance, including what to watch for and when to contact the clinic.
Before and After Your Injection
Preparation
- Eat normally before your visit
- Disclose all medications, supplements, and allergies
- Bring recent laboratory results if you have them
Aftercare
- Mild soreness, tenderness, or bruising at the injection site is common and typically resolves within a day or two
- Continue your normal routine unless otherwise directed
- Follow any recommendations provided by your practitioner
- Contact the clinic promptly if you develop spreading redness, warmth, or swelling at the site; drainage; fever; a rash or hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of the face, lips, or throat; or any symptom that concerns you. Seek emergency care for difficulty breathing or throat swelling.
Frequency is determined by your practitioner based on your clinical picture, not by a standing schedule.
How Much Does Injection Therapy Cost?
Pricing depends on the formulation ordered and whether laboratory testing is required as part of your evaluation. Because formulation selection is a clinical decision, we do not publish a price list.
Costs are reviewed with you before anything is administered. You will not be asked to commit to a series before a practitioner has determined that injection therapy is appropriate for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is injection therapy?
Injection therapy is nutritional supplementation delivered by intramuscular injection under the order and supervision of a licensed practitioner. It is a supplementation service, not a treatment for any disease or condition.
How does medical clearance work?
You complete a detailed medical intake. A licensed practitioner reviews it and either issues an order, requests laboratory testing, requests a direct evaluation, or determines that injection therapy is not appropriate for you.
Is injection therapy safe?
No injection is without risk. Reported risks include pain, tenderness, bruising, or bleeding at the injection site; local irritation or inflammation; infection at the site; allergic or hypersensitivity reaction, which can rarely be severe; and, with certain nutrients, effects related to excessive intake. Patients with G6PD deficiency can experience hemolysis from vitamin C–containing formulations, which is why screening is required. Your practitioner will review the risks relevant to the specific formulation before you receive it.
Who is not a candidate?
Injection therapy may not be appropriate for people with kidney disease or impaired renal function, heart failure or other fluid-retention conditions, certain electrolyte abnormalities, G6PD deficiency (for vitamin C–containing formulations), known allergy to any component, or who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Certain medications interact with specific nutrients. Candidacy is determined individually by practitioner review.
Does it hurt?
Most patients describe brief discomfort during the injection and mild soreness at the site afterward, similar to other intramuscular injections. This typically resolves within a day or two.
How long does a visit take?
Most injection visits take about 10 to 15 minutes. Your initial intake and review take longer.
How often should I receive injections?
Frequency is a clinical decision made by your practitioner based on your history, labs where applicable, and what you are already taking. We do not set a standard schedule.
Do I need lab work?
Some formulations require it. Vitamin D injections require current laboratory testing before administration, and your practitioner may request labs for other formulations depending on your history.
Can injection therapy replace diet or medical care?
No. A balanced diet remains the foundation of nutrition, and injection therapy is not a substitute for medical evaluation or prescribed treatment. If you have persistent symptoms, see your primary care provider.
Can I combine formulations?
Whether more than one formulation is appropriate at a given visit is a practitioner decision made during review. Combining is not automatic and is not always advisable.
What results can I expect?
We do not promise a result, and we will not tell you what you should feel. Individual responses vary considerably, and some people notice no change at all — particularly those whose nutritional status is already adequate. Higher circulating levels of a nutrient do not automatically produce a better outcome.
Do you accept insurance?
Injection therapy is a self-pay wellness service. Costs are reviewed with you before administration.
